Why timetable times mislead

Airlines print local wall-clock times, so a Sydney–London flight "departs 6:55 AM, arrives 5:05 PM" looks like ten hours — the real journey is closer to twenty-three, hidden by the time-zone shift. Flying east it works the other way: you can "land before you took off" crossing the date line. Entering both times in their own zones, as this calculator does, recovers the true duration.
